Silver care 925

925 silver is alive. It captures light, it develops a patina, it tells a story. And with the right care, it remains luminous—for a long time.

Why does 925 silver tarnish?

925 silver can tarnish over time: air, humidity, perspiration, perfumes, creams, chlorine… This is not a defect: it is a normal reaction of an authentic metal.

Good news: most of the time, a gentle cleaning + a polishing cloth is enough to revive it.

The simple routine (the one that actually works)

After each port (30 seconds)

Wipe your jewelry with a soft, clean, dry cloth. This removes traces of skin, perfume, and moisture—which is what keeps it sparkling.

Gentle cleaning (when there is insufficient light)

A bowl of lukewarm water + a drop of mild soap. Leave for 5 minutes, use a very soft brush if needed, rinse and dry thoroughly.

Polishing (to revive)

Use a special silver polishing cloth. Go gently, without "sanding". You want the shine — not to remove the material.

Important if your jewelry has a stone

Clean gently, avoiding direct contact with the stone. Rinse in a bowl (not directly in the sink) to prevent any unpleasant surprises.

Avoid this (to keep your 925 silver looking good)

  • Chlorine & pool water (accelerates discoloration).
  • Salt water / spa : remove your jewelry beforehand.
  • Household products (bleach, strong detergents).
  • Perfume, cream, hairspray : put on your jewelry last, take it off first.
  • Abrasives (toothpaste, "scratching" powders): these can scratch and dull the finish.

How to store your PLATA jewelry

Silver prefers dry conditions. When you are not wearing it, store your coins away from moisture and friction.

The right reflex

• One pouch (or small zip-lock bag) per room
• A dry place
• Avoid contact with rubber (elastic bands) and certain types of paper.
• For chains: store them flat or hang them up to avoid knots

Oxidized finish / intentionally darkened details

Some pieces have darker recesses to highlight details. In this case, avoid "aggressive" polishing: you risk removing the effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 925 silver jewelry is turning tarnished: is that normal?

Yes. Tarnishing occurs due to air, humidity, skin, and products (perfume/cream). Gentle cleaning and a polishing cloth are sufficient in most cases.

How often should 925 silver be cleaned?

When you feel it's losing its brightness: gently clean it, then dry it thoroughly. Ideally, give it a quick wipe after each wear.

Can I clean it with toothpaste/powders?

We advise you to avoid these methods: they can scratch and alter the finish. Stick to mild soap + soft brush + polishing cloth.

And if I have to choose a size?
